In my process-based approach, “imprinting” is key. Essentially, it is a hand-press monoprint technique that I first developed in 2016, inspired by an inquiry into psychological imprinting and memory. I repetitively inscribe a meditation into paint that I’ve rolled onto paper, then press that paint onto the canvas. The canvas, in return, leaves a mark on the paper: the imprinting goes both ways. While the ritual remains consistent, and reliably imbues the painting and my mindset alike with that phrase, there is a great deal of chance involved in the aesthetic result.
